One person has been confirmed dead, with several others injured, following a confrontation between suspected illegal miners and the Ghana Police Service at Jacobu in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region.
The incident occurred during a police operation and has been described by authorities as “unfortunate and avoidable.” The circumstances surrounding the clash are currently under investigation.
Investigators have assured the public that all individuals found to have acted unlawfully will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The incident has renewed concerns over illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, and its impact on security and public safety in parts of the Ashanti Region.
