The Volta Regional Health Directorate has confirmed the arrest of one of its drivers, Mr Godsway Kwaku Dogbey, by the Ghana Police Service in Ho over the alleged unlawful possession or control of suspected narcotic substances.

In a press release dated January 25, 2026, the Directorate said the arrest occurred on Friday, January 23, after police intercepted an official Directorate vehicle reportedly loaded with items suspected to be narcotic drugs. The vehicle was said to be driven by Mr Dogbey, a staff member of the Directorate’s Transport Unit.

Management subsequently dispatched a team to the Regional Police Headquarters, where the incident was confirmed. The Directorate said the driver remains in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations.

The statement added that while police investigations continue, the Directorate has initiated internal processes to establish an independent Committee of Enquiry to probe the matter. Measures are also being implemented to strengthen monitoring and tracking of all official vehicles to prevent a recurrence.
