Government is encouraging young girls to embrace technology, innovation and artificial intelligence (AI) to play an active role in Ghana’s digital transformation.
This was disclosed by the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, at the opening of the 2025 Girls-In-ICT Open Day.
The five-day programme brings together 100 beneficiaries, with 50 girls each from the Volta and Upper West Regions.
Sam George described the initiative as a national investment in Ghana’s future and urged the girls to become creators and innovators rather than merely users of technology.
“Do not let anyone convince you that technology is reserved for other people,” he told the beneficiaries.
He encouraged them to pursue careers in areas including software development, AI research, technology entrepreneurship and other fields within the digital economy.
The Minister also urged the girls to promote the responsible use of AI, particularly regarding privacy, cybersecurity, misinformation, fairness and bias.
Held under the theme “Girls in ICT for Inclusive Digital Transformation,” the programme will expose participants to coding, emerging technologies, mentorship, leadership, entrepreneurship and career development.
Sam George urged the beneficiaries to “learn, innovate, lead and succeed” and inspire other young women to pursue careers in ICT, STEM and AI.
