Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has raised concerns over what he describes as the inclusion of LGBTQ-related references in some school teaching materials, calling for their immediate withdrawal and review.
In a post on X on Tuesday, January 13, the Assin South MP alleged that certain Teacher Manuals and Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs) being used in schools contain content he believes promotes LGBTQ issues. He argued that such materials, if allowed to remain in circulation, could influence teaching in a manner inconsistent with Ghanaian values.
According to Rev. Fordjour, the materials in question were developed and distributed under the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, a situation he says contradicts the party’s public position on LGBTQ-related matters.

He called for the recall of all affected manuals and textbooks and urged education authorities to conduct a comprehensive review of the materials to ensure they align with national cultural norms.
Rev. Fordjour further linked his concerns to the government’s handling of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, commonly referred to as the anti-gay bill, arguing that the alleged presence of such content raises broader questions about the government’s policy direction.
The allegations have since drawn a response from the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), which has denied that LGBTQ content forms part of the approved Senior High School curriculum, clarifying that teacher manuals are supplementary materials and not the curriculum itself.
