At least 22 people have been killed after a construction crane collapsed onto a moving train in Thailand, authorities have confirmed.
The incident occurred at around 9:00 a.m. local time (02:00 GMT) as the train was travelling from Bangkok to a province in northeastern Thailand. Official records indicate the train was carrying at least 195 passengers at the time of the accident.

At least 80 people were injured in the crash, including a one-year-old child. Several of the injured are said to be in critical condition.
One survivor, a member of the train’s staff, recounted how passengers were violently thrown into the air when the crane struck the carriage.

Authorities say the governor of the State Railway of Thailand has ordered a “thorough and comprehensive” investigation into the cause of the collapse.
Deadly construction-related accidents are relatively common in Thailand, a situation often attributed to weak enforcement of safety standards and regulations.
