GRIDCo announces 15-hour power supply interruption in parts of Greater Accra on Sunday.

Parts of the Greater Accra region will experience interruption in power supply on Sunday, August 23, from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m.

In a statement issued on Saturday, August 22, the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) said the interruption is due to allow the next phase of work on its tower on the Ashiaman section of the 161 kV Tema-Achimota transmission line.

According to GRIDCo, the tower was damaged after a fuel tanker exploded while welding work was being carried out on its tank within the transmission line Right-of-Way.

“Our engineers and technical teams will use this period to safely undertake the remaining work to restore the integrity of the transmission line,” the statement said.

GRIDCo says it is working with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to mitigate the impact of the power supply interruption on customers and communities in the areas affected by the planned works.

The areas to be affected include Nima Township, Kanda Highway, Kanda Estate, Kokomlemle, Sulana, Circle, Madina Township, Okponglo, Cantonment, Osu Oxford Street, Mallam Atta Market, parts of Ridge, Labone, Kojo Sardine, Teshie Rasta Road, and surrounding areas.

The company has appealed for public patience and cooperation while the emergency exercise is carried out.

“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this interruption will cause and request the patience, understanding, and cooperation as GRIDCo works progressively to complete this critical work,” the company added.
