National Chairman hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has reaffirmed his commitment to rebuilding and uniting the party as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.
Speaking during a virtual engagement with the Asia and Pacific Caucus of the NPP’s External Branches, Wontumi outlined his vision to strengthen the party’s grassroots base, deepen diaspora participation, and reposition the NPP for electoral victory.
He commended members of the caucus for their continued dedication to promoting the party’s ideals beyond Ghana’s borders, describing the diaspora as a strategic partner in policy advocacy, fundraising, and voter mobilisation.
Reflecting on the party’s recent challenges, Wontumi admitted that the NPP had not adequately engaged its grassroots supporters and members abroad.
“One of the mistakes we made was not engaging our grassroots and our brothers and sisters in the diaspora as effectively as we should have. That must change,” he said.
The NPP chairman aspirant also stressed the importance of fostering a strong working relationship between the party’s flagbearer and national chairman, saying mutual trust and unity at the top would be crucial to the party’s success.
Declaring his readiness to lead the party, Wontumi stated that he possesses the experience and determination required to restore the NPP to power.
“I am built for this battle, and I am fully prepared for the challenge of leading our party back to power,” he said.
On internal party discipline, he advocated maintaining firm standards while embracing reconciliation where necessary. He noted that sanctions imposed on some members had served their purpose and called for efforts to heal divisions within the party.
Wontumi also disclosed plans to engage former presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong, describing dialogue as essential to preserving party unity.
Additionally, he hinted at possible reforms to the party’s delegate system, indicating that consultations would continue on whether a broader membership should participate in electing party executives.
Members of the Asia-Pacific Caucus welcomed the engagement and pledged to intensify mobilisation efforts and strengthen the NPP’s presence abroad as preparations begin for the 2028 elections.
