“We must rebuild a party that knows how to win”- Wontumi Campaign urges NPP ahead of 2028

The campaign team of former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has called for a major organizational rebuilding of the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The campaign says the NPP must refocus its energies on strengthening its structures, empowering its grassroots and restoring the discipline and unity needed to return the party to government.

In a statement announcing its decision to support former General Secretary John Boadu in the NPP’s National Chairman race, the Wontumi Campaign said the party’s immediate priority should go beyond internal contests.

“We must rebuild a party that knows how to win,” the campaign stated, stressing the need for “unity, discipline, organization, and clarity of purpose” as the NPP prepares for the next general election.

The campaign argued that rebuilding the NPP requires a deliberate effort to strengthen structures at all levels and ensure that grassroots members remain central to the party’s operations.

It called for party structures to be respected and empowered, while also urging the NPP to recognize the loyalty and sacrifices of members who have contributed to the party over the years.

The campaign’s call for organizational renewal came alongside its decision to throw its support behind John Boadu for the position of National Chairman.

The campaign said its decision followed a meeting between its leadership and Chairman Wontumi at the facility in Nsawam, where he is currently being held on Friday, September 4, 2026.

It said subsequent consultations with grassroots members, constituency actors, campaign leadership, party elders, and other stakeholders across the country informed the decision to support Boadu.

The campaign described Boadu as an experienced party organizer with a strong understanding of the NPP’s structures and a history of frontline service to the party.

It also said the combination of Boadu’s institutional experience and the grassroots network associated with the Wontumi Campaign could help strengthen the party’s organizational capacity.
