President John Dramani Mahama has urged members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to put the national interest above personal ambitions as the party marked its 79th anniversary with the unveiling of a commemorative bust.
Addressing party faithful at the event, President Mahama emphasized the need for unity and discipline within the NDC, warning against factionalism that could undermine the party’s progress and governance agenda.
“We also recognize the immense potential that lies before us and i believe that together we shall build a stronger and more prosperous Ghana. So as we celebrate our anniversary today, we must remember that unity remains our greatest strength. The successes we have achieved over the years have always been rooted in our ability to place our collective interests above our individual ambitions.”
He called on members to work together in support of the party’s vision, stressing that cohesion and collective effort are essential as the NDC seeks to fulfill its promises to Ghanaians.
“Our founding generation recognized that no political movement can succeed if its divided against itself. And so as we move forward let us continue to strengthen the bonds that bind us. Let us embrace dialogue over division and lets promote solidarity over factionalism.” He stated
The President further charged party members to “remain focused on our shared mission to serve the Ghanaian people.”
According to him “the best tribute we can pay to those who built this tradition is to preserve its unity and strengthen its institutions.”
President Mahama lauded the decision to name the party headquarters after its founder Jerry John Rawlings adding though history must guide members it must not enslave them.
“History matters because it teaches us where we have come from and helps us to understand where we need to go. The naming of this headquarters and the unveiling of this bust are significant acts of institunal memory. They ensure that future generatins unferstnad the sacrifices that were made to build this party and preserve our democracy. But while we honor our past we must never become prisoners of same” Mahama said.
