The Accra High Court has adjourned the bail application of the incarcerated former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, to October 15.
Chairman Wontumi is serving a 20-year prison sentence following his conviction on illegal mining-related offences last month.
His legal team challenged the conviction and sentence and is seeking bail for him while the appeal process is ongoing.
The bail application was expected to be moved before the court today, Wednesday, August 19.
However, proceedings could not go ahead as scheduled because Wontumi and his lead counsel, Samuel Atta Akyea, were absent from court.
In addition, the parties were informed that the trial judge was unavailable to sit during the week.
As a result, the application could not be moved, and the matter was subsequently adjourned to October 15, 2026.
