Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has arrived in Burkina Faso for a two-day official visit following the killing of eight Ghanaians in a terrorist attack on February 14.

He was received in Ouagadougou by Burkina Faso’s Foreign Minister, Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré, and Ghana’s Ambassador to Burkina Faso, Kenneth Akibate.
The attack targeted Ghanaian tomato traders operating in northern Burkina Faso. The eight victims were part of a group engaged in trading activities when they were ambushed. Several others sustained injuries and were subsequently airlifted back to Ghana by the Ghana Air Force.
Prior to departing Accra, the Minister visited injured survivors receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital.

Discussions during the visit are expected to focus on strengthening security cooperation, enhancing political consultations, and signing strategic agreements aimed at addressing cross-border security threats and deepening bilateral ties.
The Government of Ghana has condemned the attack and is seeking closer collaboration with Burkina Faso to improve the safety and protection of Ghanaian nationals operating within the sub-region.
