Ghana’s Black Queens have been drawn into Group D of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026, alongside three-time champions Cameroon, Mali, and Cape Verde. This year’s championship will also serve as a qualifier for the next Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
The Black Queens, who won bronze at the last edition, will be looking to make a strong comeback and secure a spot in the knockout stage. Under the guidance of head coach Kim Lars Björkegren, the team has shown recent progress and renewed focus, which will be crucial in this endeavour.
Cameroon, one of Africa’s top-ranked teams, will likely provide the toughest challenge, having won the tournament three times. Mali and Cape Verde will also pose threats, making Group D a tough nut to crack.
The Black Queens’ squad, featuring talented players like Doris Boaduwaa, Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, Portia Boakye and others, will need to gel quickly to make a deep run in the tournament in Morocco in two months’ time.
Ghana will be hoping to capitalise on their strong form and make a statement after ending the year 2025 as the third-best ranked team in Africa.
