Ghana and the Netherlands have signed a special Letter of Intent aimed at strengthening cooperation to combat illicit drugs and dismantle drug markets operating across the two countries.
The agreement was signed by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and the Netherlands’ Minister for Justice and Security, David Van Weel, during the Dutch Minister’s official visit to Ghana.
In a post on social media Mr. Ablakwa said the partnership would build on the Accra Call to Action and position Ghana and the Netherlands to provide global leadership in tackling the growing threat posed by illicit drugs.
He said the drug trade was destroying young lives, undermining public health, damaging the rule of law, and negatively impacting human rights.
“We are confident that genuine and reliable international collaboration will eliminate drug markets flooding our countries with cocaine, synthetics, and criminal money,” Mr. Ablakwa wrote.
