Akoti Health Centre Staff Demand Better Security After Violent Attack

Health workers at the Akoti Health Centre in Assin Wurakese, Assin Fosu Municipality, have called for improved security after a violent attack on a patient at the facility.

The incident happened last Sunday and caused panic among staff, forcing some to flee temporarily. Services have since resumed.

The attack followed an altercation involving Yaw Buabeng and a couple, during which cutlass wounds were inflicted. A man identified as Daniel, who suffered deep arm cuts, arrived first for treatment. Buabeng later arrived with serious head and hand injuries.

While nurses were treating Buabeng, about ten young men armed with machetes and clubs stormed the health centre and assaulted him.

The incident has been reported to the Assin Fosu District Police Command.

Police officers, led by ASP Jacob Kumdzro, and the Municipal Health Director, Benjamin Amoakoh, later visited the facility and assured staff of improved security measures.

Divisional Police Commander ACP Dr. Asare Nyarkoh said police are engaging the community to prevent further violence. He added that the prime suspect, Yaw Buabeng, is receiving treatment at St. Francis Xavier Hospital under police guard.
