Police Arrest Two School Staff for Theft of Students’ Food Items at Sefwi Bekwai

The Western North Regional Police Command has arrested two staff members from the Sefwi Bekwai STEM Senior High School in connection with the theft of food items meant for students.

The suspects, Bennedicta Nyamadi, a matron, and Rahel Kyeremateng, a cook, were apprehended on December 23, 2025, following intelligence received by the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Chief Executive on the night of December 22.

Acting on the tip-off, a joint team comprising police officers, the Member of Parliament for the area, and the Municipal Chief Executive conducted a search at Rahel Kyeremateng’s residence in Sefwi Atronsu. Large quantities of food items suspected to have been stolen from the school’s food store were recovered.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects conspired to steal and store the food items with the intention of selling them later. The recovered items included twenty-one 50 kg bags of rice, sacks of gari, maize, millet, sugar, bags of beans, large tins of tomato paste, cartons of milk, gallons of cooking oil, and tins of canned mackerel. The total value of the stolen goods is yet to be determined.

During interrogation, Rahel Kyeremateng implicated Bennedicta Nyamadi as the source of the stolen items, leading to Nyamadi’s arrest at the school premises.

Authorities are currently searching for an assistant matron, Hannah Dufie, who is alleged to have participated in the theft but remains at large.
