Paga airstrip converted into car park for Burkina and Mali bound trucks as border chokes

The Paga airstrip has been taken over by hundreds of trucks headed for Burkina Faso and Mali through Paga. The development stems from a massive congestion at the Ghana-Burkina border at Paga as a result of implementation of 24-hour services at Ghana’s end. Even though Ghana’s side of the border is opened for 24-hours round the clock, the Burkina end does only 12-hours.

The development has left a trail of packed trucks stretching from Navrongo to Paga in the Upper East Region endangering the lives of commuters and residents.

It took the intervention of the Ghana national fire service to avert a monumental catastrophe when a fuel tanker overturned on the road.

Residents are opinion leaders are warning the conversion of the Paga airstrip into a car park makes emergency medical evacuations practically impossible. They call for an immediate intervention to avert any catastrophe.

They describe the situation as a ticking time bomb waiting to explode.
