Police arrest one person in connection to death of UCC student found at Hutchland Beach

The Cape Coast District Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the death of 20-year-old University of Cape Coast (UCC) student, Avinu Innocentia, whose body was discovered at Hutchland Beach earlier this month.

The deceased, a second-year student at UCC, was officially identified by her family following appeals from the police to the public. Family members, together with the Dean of Students and police officials, confirmed her identity at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital mortuary.

Police investigations led to the arrest of a suspect as authorities continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding her death. A preliminary examination of the body reportedly revealed no immediate signs of physical assault, while the Central Regional Crime Scene Management Team processed the beach where the body was found.

The body remains at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital morgue awaiting an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Police have not yet disclosed the identity of the suspect or details of the arrest, citing ongoing investigations. Meanwhile, the University of Cape Coast management and the student community have been informed as investigators work to establish the facts surrounding the tragic incident.

Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
