She emphasised the importance of proper screening and support systems for athletes, noting that a well-structured fund is essential to safeguarding their well-being and enhancing performance.
“I want to urge that we find many ways of populating the Sports Fund and taking very good care of the athletes. We also have to ensure proper screening for them,” she stated.
The Sports Fund Bill, recently passed by Parliament, is designed to create a sustainable financing framework for sports development in Ghana. The fund is expected to support key areas including athlete welfare, sports infrastructure, grassroots development programmes, and talent identification.
During a visit to the Ministry of Sports, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang received briefings on ongoing projects and initiatives within the sector. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening sports development and ensuring that Ghana’s sporting talents are adequately nurtured through a well-funded and efficiently managed sports system.
