President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a five-member committee to oversee the implementation of the GH¢1 billion Bawku Revitalization Fund, aimed at supporting infrastructure and other development priorities in Bawku and surrounding districts.
The committee is chaired by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and includes Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga; His Royal Majesty Cletus Abugri, Chief of Tempane; Upper East Regional Minister Akamugri Donatus Atanga; and Member of Parliament for Garu, Dr Thomas Winsum Anabah.
At the inauguration ceremony at the Presidency on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, President Mahama said funding for the initiative had been secured, clearing the way for its implementation following significant improvements in the security situation in Bawku.
He explained that the fund was established after the government received the report of the Otumfuo Mediation Committee in December 2025, which renewed efforts to restore peace and accelerate development in the area.
President Mahama said the prolonged conflict had disrupted public services and stalled several major development projects, including the Tamli Dam project.
He said the relative peace now returning to Bawku presented an opportunity for the government to revive stalled projects and address the area’s development needs.
The committee is expected to provide oversight and help coordinate the implementation of projects and interventions financed through the Bawku Revitalization Fund.
