“No road, no vote”-Dome-Kwabenya residents  take to the streets over abandoned road project.

Hundreds of residents from Dome-Kwabenya, Comet, Berekuso, Agyementi and Kitase have staged a street protest to demand the rehabilitation and completion of the Dome-Kwabenya–Berekuso–Kitase Road.

The demonstration, held on Monday, August 17, was to draw attention to the deteriorating state of the road and the difficulties it continues to pose to residents, commuters, transport operators, and businesses in the affected communities.

Residents say the poor condition of the road has disrupted movement in the area for years, with no tangible action taken by relevant authorities.

According to them, the protest had become necessary to press the government to address the situation.

“This road is a huge problem for us. It makes our movement very difficult and disruptive. We are pleading with the government to work on our roads for us,” one of the protesters said.

Another demonstrator described the action as a peaceful call for urgent intervention, saying the road had remained in poor condition for about two decades.

“This is a peaceful demonstration for our roads to be fixed. The road has not been fixed in 20 years. We need our roads to be fixed,” the protester said.

Beyond the difficulties with transportation, residents also expressed concern about the health implications of the deteriorating road.

They said dust generated by vehicles using the road had become a persistent problem for people living and working in the affected communities.

The protesters are therefore calling on the government and relevant authorities to prioritize the rehabilitation and completion of the Dome-Kwabenya–Berekuso–Kitase Road.

They believe fixing the road would ease transportation challenges, improve movement between the communities, and create better conditions for residents, commuters, and businesses operating in the area.
