Speaker recalls MPs to vet ministerial and SC justice nominees and pass anti-gay bill

Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has summoned Members of Parliament from their break.

The lawmakers are to sit for five days starting from Monday, August 24, to Friday, August 28, 2026

The speaker invoked Order 58(4) of the Standing Orders of the Parliament of Ghana to summon the MPs.

The recall is intended to handle urgent parliamentary business, including the vetting and approval process for ministerial nominees; Mahama Ayariga who is heading to the Local Government and Religious Affairs ministry and Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings headed for  the Environment, Science and Technology Ministry.

Accra News Online has gathered the recall will also see to the repassage of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill popularly known as Anti-gay bill.

The 3 Supreme Court Justice Nominees will also be vetted and approved during this recall. The House will also attend to a couple of Finance Businesses.

The House adjourned sine die on July 31, 2026, closing the second meeting of the second session of the 9th Parliament.
