Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye, a former minister of health, has been elected the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Greater Accra Regional Chairman following the regional executive elections held on Saturday, August 15, 2026
Dr. Okoe Boye polled 490 votes, decisively beating the closest contender, Alfred Boye, who garnered 172 votes.
His election comes at a critical time for the NPP in the Greater Accra Region, where the party is seeking to rebuild its political fortunes after a significant setback in the 2024 general elections.
The NPP previously held 14 of the region’s 34 parliamentary seats but saw its number fall to five after the 2024 elections, resulting in the loss of eight seats.
Results from other regions
In the Ashanti Region, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, defeated Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, a former Bantama MP, to become the new chairman of the party’s stronghold.
COKA polled 658 votes to emerge as the winner, while Dr. Kokofu secured 269 votes.
Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, fought opposition from other candidates to retain his position as NPP Bono East Regional Chairman.
Abronye secured 201 votes to defeat four other contestants and maintain his position as the leader of the NPP in the Bono East Region.
In a similar vein, Makafui Kofi Woanyah retained the NPP Volta Regional Chairmanship after defeating his contender, Joseph Wallace Homenya, in the regional executive elections.
Woanyah polling 169 votes, beating his contender by 21 votes.
Meanwhile in the Savanah Region, former Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited, Clifford Abdallah Braimah, lost his bid to lead the party, suffering a narrow defeat to his contender, Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana, in the elections.
Braimah polled 88 votes while his opponent secured 92 votes.
In the Upper West Region, Abdul-Aziz Abdu-Rahaman garnered 173 votes to defeat his contender, Kantong Alaska, who polled 86 votes in the regional executive elections.
