President John Dramani Mahama has announced changes to his government, with Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga appointed as a Minister of State and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings assigned to the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation.
The changes, according to a statement from the Presidency, form part of efforts to strengthen government operations and ensure effective delivery of its policy agenda.
Mahama Ayariga, the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, has served as the Majority Leader of the National Democratic Congress parliamentary caucus since the party assumed office after the 2024 general elections.
His elevation to the executive arm of government will trigger changes within the NDC’s parliamentary leadership, with the caucus expected to select a new Majority Leader to coordinate government business in Parliament.
Mahama Ayariga began his government service as Presidential Spokesperson before being appointed Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry in 2009. He later served as Deputy Minister for Education and, in January 2013, was nominated by President John Dramani Mahama for appointment as Minister for Information.
Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, takes over the Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation portfolio, which became vacant following the death of Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed in the August 6, 2025 military helicopter crash.
The reshuffle also sees Gilbert Agyei appointed as the new Minister for Defence, taking over the ministry following the changes at the top level of government.
Meanwhile, Ahmed Ibrahim has been appointed Minister for Works and Housing, where he is expected to oversee government’s infrastructure, housing and related development programmes.
The Presidency says the changes reflect President Mahama’s decision to reposition key sectors of government and ensure effective implementation of his administration’s priorities.
