A Brussels Airlines flight en route from Accra to Lomé was forced to return to the Accra International Airport (AIA) on Monday evening after developing a technical fault shortly after take-off.
According to the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Flight SN278 departed Accra at 6:06 p.m. but encountered a technical problem minutes into the flight.
As a precautionary safety measure, the flight crew decided to return to Accra, where the aircraft landed safely at 6:18 p.m.
In a statement, the GCAA commended the flight crew for adhering to established safety procedures, stressing that the safety of passengers and crew remains its highest priority.
The Authority said Brussels Airlines is investigating the technical issue in line with established aviation safety procedures under the oversight of the GCAA.
Following the incident, Brussels Airlines cancelled Flight SN278.
The GCAA said affected passengers are being assisted by the airline in accordance with the Ghana Civil Aviation (Economic) Directives, 2019 (Part 2 – Consumer Protection).
The Authority also assured the travelling public that Ghana’s aviation safety and security oversight system remains robust.
