Eight police officers have been interdicted over a shooting incident at Sayerano in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region that left two people dead and three injured.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 7, the Western North Regional Police Command said preliminary investigations revealed that the shooting occurred during a confrontation between some residents of Sayerano and a police patrol team.
The Police said three people sustained gunshot wounds during the incident, two of whom later died. The statement also said three people are receiving treatment at the Asafo Roman Catholic Hospital but did not specify the nature of their injuries.
According to the command, all eight officers involved in the incident have been interdicted.
“The Inspector-General of Police has directed the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to conduct a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the statement said.
The Police said calm has since been restored in the community following the incident. The command has also assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that further developments will be communicated.
