The Komfo Anokye Doctors’ Association (KADA) has suspended its strike action effective 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, following successful engagements with key stakeholders, including the intervention of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
In a statement, KADA said the decision was reached after “fruitful engagements” with the hospital’s Board, management, and other parties who demonstrated commitment to addressing the concerns that triggered the industrial action.
“The Komfo Anokye Doctors’ Association (KADA) wishes to inform the general public that the industrial action embarked upon by its members has been suspended with effect from today, 9th June, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. This decision has been made following fruitful engagements and the timely intervention of His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II,” the statement read.
While the association remains committed to fully resolving the issues that led to the strike, it cited the welfare of patients and the public interest as critical factors in the decision to suspend the action while dialogue continues.
KADA expressed gratitude to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the hospital Board, management, and other stakeholders for facilitating discussions aimed at an amicable resolution. The association also acknowledged support from the National Executive Council, members of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), and various health sector unions and professional bodies. These include the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, the Health Services Workers’ Union, the Emergency Medicine Society of Ghana, the Orthopaedic Association of Ghana, the Komfo Anokye Certified Registered Anaesthetist Association, the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, and the Komfo Anokye Pharmacists Association.
The suspension brings an end to several days of industrial action at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), which disrupted healthcare services and left many patients stranded. The strike followed the suspension of KATH Chief Executive Officer Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo after he announced the suspension of emergency services at the facility.
KADA confirmed that discussions with stakeholders will continue to resolve outstanding issues that initially prompted the strike.
