A 47-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment by the Lawra Circuit Court after being convicted of incest involving his 17-year-old biological daughter in the Upper West Region.
The conviction follows investigations and prosecution by the Lawra District Police after a complaint revealed that the convict had repeatedly sexually abused the victim, who was a senior high school student, over an extended period while threatening to kill her if she disclosed the abuse.
In a statement issued on Sunday, July 26, the Upper West Regional Police Command said the court, presided over by His Honour Stanley Adjei, found the accused guilty of incest on Friday, July 24, 2026.
The court sentenced him to 20 years’ imprisonment for incest and an additional 10 years for threat of death, with both sentences to run concurrently.
The court also directed the Department of Social Welfare in Lawra to provide counselling and psychosocial support to the survivor.
The Command has encouraged members of the public to promptly report cases of sexual and domestic abuse to the Police for appropriate action.
