Chinese President Xi Jinping has wrapped up a two-day official visit to Pyongyang, marking his first trip to North Korea since 2019.
Xi received a grand welcome upon arrival on Monday morning, greeted by a guard of honour and crowds cheering along the streets.
During his stay, Xi held a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, where the two leaders pledged to expand bilateral cooperation across economic, political, and strategic areas.
The visit comes on the heels of Xi’s separate meetings with US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing, reflecting China’s active engagement with major global powers.
Analysts say Xi’s trip signals Beijing’s intent to reassert influence over Pyongyang, a strategically important but unpredictable partner that has grown closer to Moscow in recent months.
China’s outreach is seen as part of a broader effort to stabilize the Korean Peninsula and strengthen regional ties amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.
