Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has once again criticized the Mahama administration over what he describes as indiscriminate arrests, detention and intimidation of party activists.
Addressing the Minority Caucus ahead of the resumption of Parliament, Dr. Bawumia accused the government of using state institutions to target political opponents and suppress dissenting voices.

His comments come amid growing tensions following the arrest and detention of several NPP activists over comments made on social media. The latest case involves the party’s Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, who was remanded into custody for two weeks over allegations of insulting a judge.

Dr. Bawumia warned that no democratic government should be allowed to weaponize state power to silence critics or criminalize political disagreement.
He however urged members and supporters of the NPP to remain measured in their public commentary and engage in responsible political discourse despite the rising political tension.

The former Vice President maintained that freedom of expression remains a cornerstone of Ghana’s democracy and stressed the need for fairness and equal application of the law.
