Afienya, Ghana – Residents of Afienya affected by ongoing road construction works have been assured of fair compensation by Samuel Nartey George, Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram. The assurance comes as two major road projects under the government’s Big Push Agenda—Dawhenya–Afienya–Dodowa Road and Ashaiman–Asikuma Junction Road—intersect at Afienya, necessitating the demolition of several shops and residential structures.
During a visit to the community alongside District Chief Executive Raphael Uriel Nartey and NDC constituency chairman Alhaji Issah Vanguard, Mr. George emphasized that engagements with affected residents began in February to notify them of the impending demolitions.
“Development must be pursued responsibly and fairly,” Mr. George stated. “Where compensation is justified, it will be paid, and the government is committed to acting in the best interest of the people.”
The MP described the engagement as positive, despite the challenges posed by the demolition process, reiterating that Afienya holds a special place in his heart.
The government’s Big Push Agenda seeks to improve road infrastructure and connectivity in the region, with Afienya serving as a crucial junction for both projects. Residents have been encouraged to remain engaged with authorities to ensure transparency and fairness in the compensation process.
