Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has been released from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody following a judicial order. His lawyers confirmed that he was freed on April 7, 2026, and has returned home to be with his family.
The law firm Minkah-Premo, Osei-Bonsu, Bruce-Cathline & Partners emphasized that Mr. Ofori-Atta remains committed to pursuing due process in defending his rights under U.S. law. They also expressed gratitude for the prayers and support received during his detention.
Mr. Ofori-Atta had been held in ICE custody since January 2026 over issues related to his immigration status. During his detention, he was denied bail while legal proceedings and a potential extradition request from Ghana were underway.
