The Dean of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration Law School, Dr. Kwaku Agyeman-Budu, will deliver the keynote address at the 2026 conference of the NYU African Law Association in New York.
The conference, themed “Africa in Focus: Lawyering for Social Change and Good Governance,” is scheduled for March 6, 2026, at Furman Hall, New York, and is being held in collaboration with the NYU Changemaker Center.
Dr. Agyeman-Budu is expected to speak on the role of law in promoting accountable governance, social justice, and institutional reform across Africa. His participation brings a Ghanaian perspective to discussions on how legal practice can support democratic development and public sector reform on the continent.
The forum will examine how lawyers are using legal frameworks to address governance challenges, advance people-centred justice, and strengthen cooperation within African legal systems. It is expected to bring together legal practitioners, academics, and students.
Other speakers billed for the conference include Alice Adu Gyamfi of DLA Piper, Jacqueline C. A. Dugard of the Institute for the Study of Human Rights at Columbia University, Paolo Galizzi of Fordham University School of Law, Themba Mahleka of New York University, and Emerson J. Sykes of the American Civil Liberties Union, who also teaches at New York University School of Law.
The conference will run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and is open to members of the academic and legal community.
