A NAIMOS task force officer has been shot in the thigh by armed assailants. The incident happened along the Subinkurom–Kyeremasu stretch in the Dormaa Central Municipality of the Bono Region on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
The armed men were hiding in the bushes. They opened fire when they saw the NAIMOS team. A gunfight followed. During the exchange, one NAIMOS officer was injured.
The injured officer was rushed to St. Matthew Catholic Hospital at Ampenkuro. He is currently receiving treatment.
One of the attackers, identified as Abuu Ibrahim, was shot dead. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
NAIMOS said it will continue fighting illegal mining despite attacks. The organisation urged stakeholders to support its operations.
