“The Law Is The Law”- President Mahama Keeps It Real Despite Asake’s Plea Over Gun Incident

President John Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the rule of law despite an appeal from Nigerian music star Asake regarding the arrest of a man known as Cyborg.

Cyborg was taken into custody on December 29 after allegedly firing a gun into the air during a celebration while meeting Asake earlier that week.

During the Supercar Spectacle Sponsors Appreciation event in Accra on December 30, President Mahama briefly interacted with Asake and his entourage. Referring to the incident with humor, the President remarked, “He’s the one the guy fired the gun for?” and later added, “And he ended up in trouble,” eliciting laughter.

Asake apologized on behalf of Cyborg, asking the President to temper justice with mercy, explaining the gunshot was fired in excitement. President Mahama acknowledged the apology but emphasized that legal procedures must be respected, stating, “Don’t worry about it. The law is the law.”

Asake remains in Ghana following his performance at the AfroFuture Festival, a major end-of-year music event.
