The government says 26 suspects have so far been arraigned before the courts in connection with election-related violence recorded during Ghana’s 2020 and 2024 general elections.
Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak made the disclosure at the Government Accountability Series, saying one of the 26 suspects has been discharged, while 25 remain on trial.
According to him, the Police have also identified 13 additional suspects linked to the various incidents who are currently at large.
The Interior Minister says the Police are working to arrest the outstanding suspects and bring them before the courts.
He is also appealing to members of the public who have information on the whereabouts of the 13 suspects to assist the Police.
Mr. Muntaka says the investigations form part of government’s efforts to address election-related violence, following President John Dramani Mahama’s directive for a comprehensive investigation into incidents recorded during the 2020 and 2024 general elections.
He stressed that government remains committed to ensuring that persons found culpable are held accountable in accordance with the law.
The Minister further assured that the public will be updated as investigations and prosecutions progress.
