The Parliamentary Service has formally notified the Electoral Commission (EC) of a vacancy in the Kpandai Constituency seat following a court order mandating a re-run of the 2024 parliamentary elections in the area.
The notification, dated December 4, 2025, marks the official start of the administrative process for organising the re-run election to fill the vacant seat.
The letter, addressed to EC Chairperson Jean Mensa, cites Article 112(5) of the 1992 Constitution, which mandates the Clerk to notify the EC of any parliamentary vacancy. The notification follows a High Court order from Tamale, dated November 24, 2025, which invalidated the previous election results due to irregularities.
Under Article 112(5), the EC is required to hold a re-run election within 90 days of the vacancy notification, unless the vacancy occurs within three months before Parliament’s dissolution. Given the December 4 notification date, the EC must organize the re-run by early March 2026.
The EC is expected to release the election timetable, including nomination deadlines and the election date, in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, former Kpandai MP Matthew Nyindam has expressed strong confidence in retaining his parliamentary seat.
