The Ghana Police Service is investigating a viral video in which an American woman, Arianna Naomi Mackey, claimed she was kidnapped and robbed in Accra by men she alleged were police officers.
According to a statement from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), inquiries revealed that Ms. Mackey and two companions checked out of their hotel on December 5, 2025. Airport records confirmed she left the country the same day.
Investigators reached out to Ms. Mackey to support the probe, but she stated she was outside Ghana and could not provide details such as the names of the alleged officers or vehicle registration numbers.
The statement, signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, CID Public Relations Officer, also noted that Ms. Mackey has since deleted the viral video and has not responded to subsequent attempts to contact her, blocking investigators on WhatsApp.
Despite these challenges, the Police say they are pursuing diplomatic channels to secure her cooperation. The Service emphasized that it takes the allegations seriously and remains committed to uncovering the facts.
