The Electoral Commission will within 30 days have to organize another parliamentary election in the Kpandai Constituency. The High Court in Tamale has ordered a rerun of the election over what it terms breaches Regulations 39 and 43 of the Public Elections Regulations (CI 127).
The petition was filed by National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Daniel Nsala Wakpal, who claimed that the December 7, 2024, election was tainted by serious irregularities.
He alleged inconsistencies in Form 8A (the “pink sheet”) from 41 polling stations out of the total 152, arguing that these breaches violated Regulations 39 and 43 of the Public Elections Regulations (CI 127).
The ruling, delivered by His Lordship Emmanuel Brew Plange, followed a legal challenge to the results of the 2024 parliamentary elections in the constituency. The petition argued that irregularities during the voting and collation processes affected the credibility of the final outcome.
In his judgment, Justice Plange upheld the petition and ordered the Electoral Commission to organize a new election to determine the rightful winner.
Speaking to the media after the judgment, deputy Director of election and IT Rashid Tanko- Computer argued the NDC has been vindicated.
“There are several crooked electoral officers who are bent on stealing the election for the NPP and this is one of them. We said it time and again that the seat of Kpandai was a seat for the NDC. They rigged the election and we’ve been saying it.”
