EC: Staff petitions Mahama for removal of Jean Mensah, deputies over stated misconduct

A staff member of the Electoral Commission (EC) has formally petitioned President John Dramani Mahama, calling for the removal of Chairperson Jean Mensa and her deputy commissioners, Dr. Bossman Eric Asare and Samuel Tettey.

The petition, submitted on Monday, November 24, 2025, accuses the leadership of mismanagement, lack of transparency, and failure to uphold governance standards, which have reportedly affected morale and operational efficiency within the commission.

Joseph Blankson Adumadzie, the petitioner, cited 12 counts of alleged misconduct, including cronyism, abuse of office, and gross incompetence. He claims these actions have undermined public confidence in the EC and threaten the integrity and independence of Ghana’s electoral process.

Invoking Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, which provides for the removal of heads of independent constitutional bodies, Adumadzie is urging immediate intervention to restore trust in the commission.

The EC Chairperson Jean Mensa and her office have yet to comment on the allegations.
