Former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralization (IMCCoD), Dennis Miracles Aboagye has been released from the custody of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) after meeting his bail conditions.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team member was granted bail in the sum of GH¢50 million with three sureties, two of whom were required to be justified.
The bail conditions had attracted widespread public debate, with the NPP describing them as excessive while others argued they reflected the magnitude of the financial allegations under investigation.
Mr. Aboagye was arrested at the Accra International Airport on July 12 after returning from a trip abroad.
EOCO said the arrest forms part of ongoing investigations into alleged financial and procurement irregularities involving approximately GH¢55 million during Mr. Aboagye’s tenure at the IMCCoD.
The anti-graft agency is also investigating the former accountant of the Secretariat, Gerald Appiah, who was arrested in connection with the same case.
Investigations into the alleged financial improprieties are ongoing, with EOCO expected to determine its next course of action based on the outcome of its inquiries.
