Ghana Shines at West African Para Games with 40 Medals, Donations Fly in from Samson Deen, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah and Sharaf Mahama

Ghana’s para athletes concluded their campaign at the inaugural West African Para Games in Abeokuta, Nigeria, with a commendable second-place finish, securing 40 medals, including 4 gold, 15 silver, and 21 bronze.

The Ghanaian contingent, comprising over 60 athletes, competed in nine disciplines, with notable performances in Para Armwrestling, where Tahiru Haruna won two gold medals, and Frank Fudzi and Isaac Nii Ayitey added bronze medals.

Team Ghana’s Chef de Mission, Mrs. Mary Apedo, expressed pride in the team’s achievements, while coaches were optimistic about future success. The African Paralympic Committee President, Mr. Samson Deen, congratulated the team and announced cash prizes from himself, the ‘Walk With Julius’ team, and the Director-General of National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.

Additionally, President Mahama’s son, Sharaf Mahama, offered free tickets to a boxing bout to the entire team. The National Sports Authority encouraged the athletes to continue working hard and focusing on training.
