The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe popularly known as Abronye, has been granted bail by the Accra Circuit Court to the tune of GH¢50,000 without justification.
The development followed an application from his lawyers, led by Daniel M. Addo who prayed the court to abridge the hearing date from September 19 to 15 due to his client’s health condition.
The accused, who is facing one count of publication of false news and one count of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace was subsequently admitted to bail.
Abronye has however been ordered to report to the police once every week.
Abronye has been accused of stating on his Ohia TV that all strategic meetings conducted by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Akwatia had the Inspector General of Police (IGP in attendance.
He also accused the current IGP, Tetteh Yohuno, of being “most corrupt” IGP in the country’s history.
Abronye has however pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.
He was earlier remanded and upon his return to court last Friday had his detention extended by one extra week which received public backlash.
The case has been adjourned to October 7, 2025.
