The Concerned Nurses and Midwifery Association of Ghana has condemned the General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum, for what they described as “unprofessional and disrespectful” comments against Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.
The incident, which went viral on social media, showed relatives of an accident victim clashing with emergency staff over alleged delays in treatment.
The altercation escalated, with activist Ralph St. William accused of assaulting a nurse, leading to police intervention.
Following the incident, the Health Minister visited the hospital, condemned the attack, and pledged improved security.
However, there was footage of him later seen in a cordial handshake with Ralph drawing sharp criticism.
Dr. Tenkorang-Twum attacked the Minister, asserting that the Minister lacked understanding of hospital operations because of his farming background.
In a statement signed by President Abena Serwaa Akoto and Secretary Francis Asaba, the Concerned Nurses Association said such remarks were “unbecoming of a leader” and warned that intemperate language risks tarnishing the image of the nursing profession.
They urged Dr. Tenkorang-Twum and other nursing leaders to show maturity, diplomacy, and professionalism in expressing dissent, stressing that leadership requires decorum and respect regardless of disagreements with government.
The group expressed hope that the GRNMA General Secretary will reflect on his comments and exercise better judgment in future engagements.
