Police Arrest 13 Suspected Prostitutes, Landlord and Bouncer in Koforidua

The Ghana Police Service in Koforidua has arrested 13 people suspected of prostitution. They include 12 Nigerians, along with a landlord and a bouncer, over allegations of human trafficking, assault, operating a brothel, allowing a minor to engage in prostitution, and trading in prostitution.

The arrests followed a complaint lodged on Thursday, February 6, 2026, by Godwill, a 30-year-old Nigerian national and commercial sex worker residing in Nsukwao, Koforidua.

According to Municipal Police Commander Ransford Nsiah, the complainant alleged that she had been trafficked from Nigeria to Ghana by her alleged mistress, Christabel Simon, also a Nigerian national, for the purpose of prostitution. Godwill reportedly had to meet a daily sales target of GHS 400, and on the day of the incident could only raise GHS 250, which her mistress and her boyfriend, Simon Kwarteng, allegedly refused to accept. She claimed she was physically assaulted by the two suspects over her inability to meet the target.

Following the complaint, police investigations led to Dabiasem, a suburb of New Juaben, where Christabel Simon was arrested. During the operation, authorities uncovered a brothel facility allegedly operated by landlord Omari Gyamfi, where 12 additional Nigerian women, including a 15-year-old minor, were found residing and engaging in prostitution.

The minor has since been separated for protection, with arrangements being made in collaboration with social welfare agencies. The suspects remain in police custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.

The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to combating human trafficking, protecting children and other vulnerable persons, and enforcing the laws of Ghana without fear or favour. The public has been urged to report suspected cases of human trafficking, child abuse, and related criminal activities to the nearest police station.
