Global internet personality known as Speed has been formally welcomed in Ghana with a traditional Akan naming ceremony held in the Eastern Region on Monday.
The colourful event, led by local chiefs and elders, blended royal pageantry with rich cultural symbolism as the digital star was introduced to longstanding customs and given the name Barima Kofi Akuffo.
Community grounds were transformed into a vibrant scene of traditional regalia, drumming, and celebration, with residents gathering in large numbers to witness the ceremony.
Clad in traditional cloth, Speed took part in the rites, dancing to the sound of fontomfrom drums and greeting elders and spectators in a show of appreciation for the reception.
A key moment of the ceremony was his formal introduction to the traditional ruler.
In Akan tradition, Barima denotes a brave and noble man, often associated with strength and heroism. Kofi is a day name given to males born on a Friday, while Akuffo is a recognised Akan family name, symbolising belonging and lineage. Combined, the name reflects strength, resilience, and a symbolic bond with the community.
