NPP suspends constituency executive elections in 23 constituencies over disputes.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has put constituency executive elections in 23 constituencies across the country on hold following disputes that emerged during the electoral process.

The party said the affected constituencies are among 31 where the elections were not completed during Saturday’s nationwide exercise.

In an update, the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, said constituency executive elections were successfully conducted in 245 of the party’s 276 constituencies, representing an 88.7 per cent success rate.

The party also announced that elections could not be held in four constituencies, namely Ningo Prampram, Atwima Mponua, Obuasi West and Trobu, due to what it described as last-minute challenges.

In addition, the NPP said its National Steering Committee will review election activities in Afigya Sekyere East, Adansi Asokwa, Bantama and Asante Akyem Central constituencies.

Despite the generally peaceful polls, the elections were marred by isolated incidents of violence in some constituencies, with at least three people arrested in connection with disturbances that characterized the exercise.

The party said the National Secretariat remains committed to resolving all outstanding issues to ensure the successful completion of the constituency executive elections.
