Miracles Aboagye’s arrest undermines Ghana’s progress on rule of law- Oppong Nkrumah.

Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has accused government of using arrests and detentions to intimidate political opponents following the arrest of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications team member Dennis Mircales Aboagye.

In a post on X on Sunday, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah criticized the arrest, arguing that it undermined all the decades of progress the country has made on matters of rule of law.

“When a man is easily locatable, there’s no reason for which you will arrest and detain him on Saturday to be investigated the ff week,” he wrote.

Mr. Aboagye was arrested by EOCO officials at the Accra International Airport on Sunday July 12, 2026.

According to Accra News sources, the arrest is linked to the tenure of Miracles as Executive Secretary for the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralization (IMCC).

Shortly after his arrest, the NPP demanded the immediate release of Mr. Aboagye

In the statement, the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, alleged Miracles had been denied access to his lawyers and that his whereabouts were unknown.

The party described the development as an abuse of power and intimidation against a fierce critic of the Mahama administration.

Dennis Miracles Aboagye’s arrest came hours after he declared his intention to contest as the National Director of Communication for the NPP.
