The contractor working on the Have-Hohoe road project, Green House Construction, has been given a two-month ultimatum to increase the completion rate of the project to 20 percent or risk losing the contract.
Minister for Roads and Highways Kwame Governs Agbodza issued the ultimatum after inspecting the project, expressing concern over the pace of work on the road.
According to the minister, the current 13 per cent completion rate of the project is the lowest among projects on the Eastern Corridor Road.
“On the Easter Corridor, this section appears to be the worst. You are the worst-performing contractor on the Eastern Corridor currently, and that must not be accepted,” the minister said.
The Adaklu Member of Parliament charged the contractor to improve productivity and ensure the project progresses in line with agreed timelines, warning that failure to do so could result in the contract being reconsidered.
The Member of Parliament for Hohoe, Efo Worlanyo Tsekpo, also expressed frustration over the slow pace of work, saying several efforts to push the contractor to speed up activities had yielded few results. According to him, the contractor only returned to the site because of the minister’s inspection visit.
“I’m happy that the minister has given him the ultimatum. I will be monitoring and will give direct reports to the minister on the progress because at the end, we are the ones they blame,” the MP added.
Meanwhile, the CEO of the Ghana Highway Authority, Surveyor Mallam Issah Ishak, expressed disappointment in the contractor for the slow pace of work despite his experience in the sector.
