Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Awentami Afoko, has officially declared his intention to contest for the party’s National Chairmanship, pledging to reunite the party and position it for victory in the 2028 general elections.
Afoko announced his decision during an appearance on JoyNews Today, where he said he remains committed to the NPP despite his suspension and believes he has the experience and leadership needed to rebuild the party.
He stressed that internal unity would be critical to the NPP’s electoral fortunes, warning that the party cannot return to power if divisions and unresolved grievances persist.
The former chairman also reiterated that he has forgiven those involved in his suspension, insisting that reconciliation and collective purpose must take precedence over past disagreements.
Afoko’s declaration adds another name to what is expected to be a competitive race for the NPP National Chairmanship as the party restructures ahead of the 2028 elections.
His campaign is expected to focus on party unity, grassroots mobilisation and strengthening the party’s internal structures.
