Police intensify crackdown on unauthorized sirens, strobe lights; several arrested.

The Ghana Police Service has intensified a nationwide crackdown on the unauthorized use of sirens, horns, strobe lights, and other emergency warning devices, leading to the arrest of several offenders.
The Police said the enforcement exercise forms part of efforts to improve road safety, restore discipline on the country’s roads, and ensure compliance with the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180).
In a press release issued on Tuesday, July 7, the Service reminded the public that the use of sirens, horns, strobe lights, and other emergency warning devices without lawful authority is prohibited under Regulation 74 of L.I. 2180.
According to the Police, the misuse of such devices poses a serious threat to public safety by creating unnecessary panic among motorists and other road users while contributing to traffic indiscipline.
The Service has therefore directed all persons who have installed the devices on their vehicles without authorization to remove them immediately or risk arrest.
“Ongoing nationwide enforcement operations have already resulted in the arrest of several offenders,” the statement said.
The Police stressed that the enforcement exercise would continue across the country as authorities seek to clamp down on the illegal use of emergency warning devices.
“The Ghana Police Service will continue to intensify the enforcement exercise to arrest offenders, promote safety, order, and discipline on the nation’s roads,” the statement added.
